Um 8 Uhr ging der Wecker heute Morgen, wir machten uns bereit für unseren Golftag und eine halbe Stunde später sassen wir beim Frühstück.

At 8 am this morning the alarm clock went off, we made ourselves ready for the day playing golf and went for breakfast half an hour later.

Nach dem Frühstück fuhren wir eine Viertelstunde zum Golfplatz Arabella, wo Esthi uns um 10 Uhr t-time reserviert hatte. Ein herrlicher Tag strahlte uns entgegen, aber immer mehr Wolken zogen auf. Mit Temperaturen um 25 Grad und dem netten Ehepaar Mary und Michael aus England war es ein perfekter Tag um auf diesem wunderschönen Platz Golf zu spielen.

After breakfast we drove a quarter of an hour to the Arabella golf course where Esther hat reserved us t-time at 10 am. The day started sunny but more and more clouds came up. With temperatures around 25 centigrade and the lovely couple Mary and Michael from England it was a perfect day to play golf on this beautiful golf course.

Nach einer lustigen und interessanten Runde auf dem Platz und im Golfrestaurant kühlten wir uns im Guesthouse unter der Dusche kurz ab und fuhren danach ins Zentrum von Hermanus. Das schien wie tot... wir schlenderten der Uferpromenade entlang und entschieden uns dann bald für ein frühes Abendessen im Burgundy - genial!

After a drolly and interesting round on the course and in the golf restaurant we went back to the hotel to have a cooling shower and thereafter we drove into the village of Hermanus. This seemed like dead... we shortly walked along the coastal promenade and soon decided to have an early dinner at the Burgundy - genius!

03.02.2013 Paarl - Hermanus

Nach einer weiteren gut durchgeschlafenen Nacht erwachten wir um 9 Uhr, machten uns sowie unser Gepäck für die Weiterreise bereit und um 10 Uhr sassen wir beim Frühstück. Es war sehr windig, große Wolken zogen vorüber und es war mindestens 10 Grad kühler - nach den letzten extrem heissen Tagen (gegen 40 Grad!) eine willkommene Abkühlung!

After another good night with lots of sleep we woke up around 9 am, made ourselves as well as our luggage ready for the continuation of our trip and had breakfast at 10 am. It was very windy, big clouds passed by and it was at least 10 centigrade cooler - after the last extremely hot days (up to 40 centigrade!) a welcome cooling off!

Um 11 Uhr fuhren wir los Richtung Meer nach Hermanus. Zuerst ging es durch Weinanbaugebiete und dann über den Franschhoek Pass, wo wir Nebel, Regen und verregnete Bärenpaviane begegneten. Weiter durchquerten wir eine Hochebene und den mystischen Theewaterskloof Dam. Nach 2 weiteren Pässen und einer kurzen Strecke auf der N2 erreichten wir die Küste und checkten um 13 Uhr im 138 Marine Beachfront Guesthouse (http://www.138marine.co.za) in Hermanus ein.

At 11 am we hit the road direction ocean to Hermanus. First we passed lots of vineyards and then the Franschhoek pass where we encountered fog, rain and rain-swept Cape baboons! Further we crossed a plateau and the mystic Theewaterskloof Dam. After 2 more passes and a short stretch on the N2 we reached the coast and checked in the 138 Marine Beachfront Guesthouse (http://www.138marine.co.za) in Hermanus at 1 pm.

Am Nachmittag nutzte ich die Bewölkung (um meinen Sonnenbrand nicht aufzufrischen!) und joggte dem Küstenweg entlang der wildromantischen Küste - tat das gut! ; )

In the afternoon I took advantage of the clouds (to not revive my sunburn!) and went for a long run on the coastal path along the wild and romantic coast - what a treat! ; )

Um 19 Uhr marschierten wir dem Küstenweg und 2 Stränden entlang zum Fischrestaurant Milkwood, dort assen wir uns durch Muscheln, Krabben, Crevetten und Fische... herrlich!

At 7 pm we walked along the coastal path and 2 beaches to the Milkwood restaurant and ate ourselves throught mussles, crabs, prawns and fish… delicious!

02.02.2013 Paarl

Haben wir gut geschlafen hier auf diesem schönen Weingut! Ich nutzte die kühlen Morgenstunden vor dem Frühstück um meinen Blog zu aktualisieren und meine e-mails abzurufen und um 10 Uhr waren wir beim Frühstück - ebenfalls draussen von Hortensien umringt…

We slept very well last night on this beautiful wine estate! I took advantage of the cool morning hours and updated my blog, checked my e-mails and at 10 am we were at breakfast - again outside surrounded by hydrangeas...

Kurz nach 11 Uhr nahmen wir die 15 Minuten zum Pearl Valley Golfplatz unter die Räder, wo uns Esthi um 12:10 Uhr t-time reserviert hatte. Auf dem Weg konnten wir sehen, wie viel der Buschbrand letzte Woche zerstört hatte: Sogar der halbe Zufahrtsweg zum Golfplatz war schwarz!

Shortly before 11 am we took the 15 minutes' drive to the Pearl Valley golf course where Esther reserved t-time at 12:10 for us. On the road there we could clearly see how much the bush fire had destroyed last week: Even half the driveway to the golf course was black!

Wir starteten die 18 Loch mit Helen und Jöran aus Schweden bei mindestens 33 Grad - zum Glück hatten wir ein Cart gebucht um wenigstens dort etwas im Schatten zu sein! Der Platz umringt von Bergen konnte in keinem besseren Zustand sein und wurde überall ständig bewässert, leider ist er aber komplett von Häusern umbaut!

We started the 18 holes with Helen and Jöran from Sweden with at least 33 centigrade - fortunately we had booked a cart to be at least there in the shade! Actually the golf course surrounded by mountains couldn't be in a better condition and was watered everywhere constantly, but unfortunately completely obstructed with houses!

Auf dem Rückweg zum Hotel fuhren wir dem Paarl Mountain entlang und bestaunten den riesigen Granitblock. Im Hotel angelangt genossen wir auf unserer Terrasse einen Champagner und machten uns darauf bereit zum Abendessen, das uns die Reception im Terra Mare reserviert hatte.

On the way back to the hotel we drove along the Paarl Mountain and marvelled at the giant granit rock. Arrived at the hotel we enjoyed some champagne on our terrace and made ourselves ready for dinner which the reception had booked at the Terra Mare for us.

Um 20 Uhr trafen wir im Restaurant Terra Mare in Paarl ein, wo uns Olivier, der Besitzer aus Neuchâtel, begrüsste. Wir genossen bis jetzt unser bestes Essen und Wein (Shiraz Andreas) in Südafrika bei ihm sowie später einen Brandy und Schwatz an der Bar…

At 8 pm we reached the restaurant Terra Mare in Paarl, where Olivier the owner from Neuchâtel welcomed us. We enjoyed our best dinner and wine (Shiraz Andreas) in South Africa there up to now there and later on a brandy and a chat at the bar…

01.02.2013 Cape Town - Paarl

Heute Morgen erwachten wir um 9 Uhr, machten uns sowie unser Gepäck bereit für die Abreise und begaben uns zum Frühstück. Kurz vor 11 wurde unser Mietauto vorgefahren, das Gepäck darin verstaut und los ging es Richtung Paarl.

This morning we woke up around 9 am, made ourselves as well as our baggage ready for departure and went for breakfast. Shortly before 11 am our rental car was driven up, our suitcases were stowed and ready we were to hit the roads direction Paarl.

Zuerst fuhren wir auf der Autobahn N1 aus der Stadt Richtung Osten und nahmen die Abfahrt nach Stellenbosch durch die vielen wunderschön angelegten aber sehr trockenen Weinanbaugebiete. Es war viel zu heiß um aus dem Auto zu steigen, das Thermometer zeigte 33 Grad an! Trotzdem schlenderten wir in Stellenbosch um den Dorfkern und setzten uns dann erschlagen in eine Weinbar...

First we took the highway N1 outbound direction east and took the exit to Stellenbosch passing the beautiful but very dry wine-growing area. It was just too hot to get out of the car, the thermometer showed 33 centigrade! Nevertheless we took a stroll along the old village centre but then bushed had a drink in a wine bar...

Weiter ging es über einen kleinen Pass nach Paarl, wo wir um 14:30 Uhr im Palmiet Valley Estate (http://palmietvalleyestate.co.za) ankamen und die kommenden 2 Nächte verbringen werden. Wie bereits gesagt, es war unerträglich heiss, so dass wir die ersten Stunden im klimatisierten Zimmer verbrachten und erst gegen Abend einen Liegestuhl am Pool aufsuchten!

We drove on over a little pass to Paarl where we arrived at the Palmiet Valley Estate (http://palmietvalleyestate.co.za) at 2:30 pm and will stay for the next 2 nights. As I already have mentioned, it was unbearably hot so that we spent the first couple of hours in our air-conditioned room before we sought shade on a deckchair at the pool!

Um 19:30 Uhr begaben wir uns auf die Terrasse zum Sundowner und lernten die Besitzerin Marguerite kennen. Nach dem Apéro speisten wir draußen ganz romantisch zwischen Hortensien.

At 7:30 pm we went to the terrace for sundowners and got to know the owner Marguerite. After a glass of wine or two we went for dinner which we enjoyed very romantically outside in between of hydrangeas.
