24. + 25.01.2013 Böju – Krüger Park

Am Donnerstag, den 24. Januar hatte ich um 19 Uhr meinen Koffer gepackt als Brige kam um unseren Schlüssel zu holen (sie wird die Häsis und Pflanzen in unserer Abwesenheit füttern!). Wir nahmen zum Abschied einen Prosecco und ein herrliches Soufflé, das ich aus den Resten im Kühlschrank zubereitet hatte.

Hansruedi wurde zunehmend nervöser, so fuhren wir kurz vor 20 Uhr zu Melanie, die uns nach Zürich an den Flughafen fuhr. Wir gaben unser Gepäck auf und trafen noch Bekannte aus unserer Region für einen Schwatz.

On Thursday, January 24th, I finished packing my suitcase around 7 pm when my friend Bridget arrived to get my house keys (she will feed our rabbits and plants while we are travelling!). To say goodbye and celebrate our holidays, we had prosecco and a delicious soufflé, which I had prepared with the remains of the fridge.

Hansruedi got more and more nervous each minute, so we drove off to Melanie shortly before 8 pm. Our daughter drove us to the airport of Zurich. We dropped off our luggage and met some people from our village we had a chat with.

Pünktlich um 22:45 Uhr hoben wir in Zürich ab und landeten nach einem ruhigen Flug und ein bisschen Schlaf nach 11 Stunden um 10 Uhr in Johannesburg. Bis wir durch den Zoll waren, Geld gewechselt, einen weckenden doppelten Espresso eingenommen und das Mietauto abgeholt hatten, waren volle 2 Stunden verstrichen...

On time at 10:45 pm we took off in Zürich and landed after a quiet flight and even some sleep after 11 hours at 10 am in Johannesburg. Until we had passed the customs, changed money, had a strong double espresso and picked up our rental car, 2 hours had gone by…

Um 12 Uhr bei 30 Grad fuhren wir mit unserem niegelnagelneuen Toyota Etios (68 km) los Richtung Krügerpark: 200 km auf der Autobahn und dann noch 300 km auf Landstrassen (120 km/h erlaubt!) durch eine wunderschöne Hochebene und über den Pass Abel Erasmus.

At noon with 30 degrees we drove off with our brand new Toyota Etios (68 km) direction Kruger Park: 200 km on the highway and then another 300 km on country roads (120 km/h is allowed!) through a beautiful plateau and over the pass Abel Erasmus.

Für die letzten 40 km durch den Krüger Park zur Motswari Lodge (http://www.motswari.co.za) benötigten wir 2 Stunden, so viele Tiere sahen wir! Als uns dann am Schluss noch ein riesiger Leopard auf der Strasse entgegenkam, war ich so verblüfft, dass ich nicht einmal mehr Fotos schiessen konnte!

It took us 2 hours to drive the last 40 km to the Motswari Lodge (http://www.motswari.co.za) through the Kruger Park because we saw this many animals! In the end when for desert a huge leopard was walking on the street towards us, I was so stunned that I wasn’t able to take pictures!

Um 19:30 Uhr kamen wir bei Dunkelheit in der Motswari Lodge an. Nach einer kühlen Dusche wurden wir schon zum Abendessen abgeholt (abends darf man sich nicht alleine draussen aufhalten!). Zuerst gab es an der Bar, wo sich die andern Gäste schon versammelt hatten, einen Apero und dann wurde ein köstliches Essen in romantischer Atmosphäre aufgetragen… Was für ein Tag war das! Eigentlich wollte ich danach noch diesen Post schreiben, aber die Hitze, der Wein und die Müdigkeit waren stärker…

At 7:30 pm we arrived at the Motswari Lodge. After a cool shower we already got picked up for dinner (nobody is allowed to walk alone in the dark!). First we had an appetizer at the bar, where the other guests already exchanged their experiences of the day and thereafter we had a delicious dinner in a very romantic atmosphere… What a day it was! Actually I intended to write this post after dinner, but the heat, the wine and the tiredness were stronger…
